Watch: Sint Maarten Continues to Make Big Strides to Rebuild After Irma – #RebuildSXM

Progress continues around the island of Sint Maarten as the rebuild moves along. There’s been a lot happening each and every day. The assistance the Dutch government has given to Sint Maarten has been phenomenal and is really becoming a case-study for how to support a country after a natural disaster.

Following are just a few examples of some of the projects happening around the island as work continues.

Telecommunications

The Dutch have provided Sint Maarten with telecommunications towers and antennas to help get the island’s communications network back up and running. In this video, Ryan Wijngaarde, from Public Relations Bureau Telecommunications, talks about the equipment and how it will be used.

Ivy Lambert, UTS Marketing and Communications Officer, shares what UTS has been doing to get service restored to the island. UTS has been able to get coverage back up to 80% of their customers so far.

Reconstruction of the island

Christopher Emmanuel, Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure talks about the large equipment sent to Sint Maarten by the Dutch Government to help rebuild the island.

Jon Ferlise

Hi there! 👋 I'm Jon, an American 🇺🇸 (and Canadian 🇨🇦) who fell in love with Saint Martin the first time I visited back in 2009. Since then, I've traveled to Saint Martin countless times, both with family and solo. Following Hurricane Irma, on September 6, 2017, I started SXM Strong to support the island and share information I was gathering to help the island recover. Today, SXM Strong is a place I share everything I know and have learned about this incredible island. 🏝️ 🇫🇷 🇸🇽
