Rotary Club of Sint Maarten Helps Clean Up Philipsburg as Part of #SXMUNITE Campaign (Photos)

On Tuesday, October 31, Port Sint Maarten announced that they were endorsing the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten as they embark on the #SXMUNITE campaign. In a statement on Tuesday, the Rotary Club said, “We can unite and work together to ensure popular spots are adopted and cleaned and are truly ready for visitors. The boardwalk and the route from the cruise ships to Philipsburg should be focused on and cleaned up as well. Mullet Bay, Maho (Airport) Beach are two other popular areas we can bring back to their former glory with a little help from you!”

Today, the Rotary Club led their first cleanup event in Philipsburg. This is the first of what will likely be several outings organized by the Rotary Club to help clean up around Sint Maarten. Specific dates for the other cleanups haven’t yet been announced but should be posted on the Rotary Club Facebook page.

I fell in love with the island of Saint Martin the first time I visited to celebrate my 40th birthday in May of 2009. Since then, I've spent most birthdays there, and have visited countless other times getting to know this wonderful place and the friendly locals that make it so special. I adore the culture, the people, the community, and the beauty of this stunning island. SXM Strong is a website that I started to support humanitarian relief efforts following Hurricane Irma. There was no plan, it just evolved as I witnessed the devastation that Irma caused the island and the huge need to communicate and disseminate information about what had happened and how people could help support this island and its people.
