Royal Caribbean has sent a massive cruise ship with supplies into the Sint Maarten port in Philipsburg. The ship is scheduled to depart today around 6 pm.

The ship is capable of carrying 2,450 people and will pick up U.S. citizens and those legally admissible into the United States to transport them to San Juan, Puerto Rico. You must register by sending an email to stormhelp@rccl.com.

After registering, meet at Sint Maarten Festival Village on Pond Island on Friday (today). You will be able to park in public parking areas but you will need to have a friend or family member pick up your car. You cannot leave your car there.

You will be allowed to bring one small pet and one piece of luggage. The pet must have a note from a local veterinarian in order to be allowed on the ship.

All qualified and registered individuals will be taken by bus to port Sint Maarten for departure. Do not go to the port directly. The ship will leave at or around 6 pm.

In addition, Royal Caribbean has announced that they have set up a donation fund and will match donations made up to $1 million. You can donate here. I’ll also put a link on the Donate page of sxmstrong.com, where you can find info on this and other worthy causes to donate to.

KLM is sending a Boeing 747 with the capacity to carry 268 passengers to SXM on Saturday. The flight will evacuate tourists of all nationalities to Aruba on Saturday. Additional information can be found here.

I fell in love with the island of Saint Martin the first time I visited to celebrate my 40th birthday in May of 2009. Since then, I've spent most birthdays there, and have visited countless other times getting to know this wonderful place and the friendly locals that make it so special. I adore the culture, the people, the community, and the beauty of this stunning island. SXM Strong is a website that I started to support humanitarian relief efforts following Hurricane Irma. There was no plan, it just evolved as I witnessed the devastation that Irma caused the island and the huge need to communicate and disseminate information about what had happened and how people could help support this island and its people.
