Tropical Storm Developing South of Cape Verde Islands, Moving Slowly Westward to Northwestward

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a new low pressure system that is showing 80% likelihood of forming into a cyclone over the next five days. The system is currently south of the Cape Verde islands.

Unlike hurricane Florence, which is tracking clearly north of the Leeward Islands, this storm appears to currently be tracking along a much more westward route than northwestward. Looking at the forecast map from Windy.com we can also see what appears to be another system forming just behind this one, and appearing as though it may take a similar, perhaps slightly more northerly, route.

Windy.com forecast for Wednesday, September 12, 2018

We will continue to track both of these systems as they develop over the next several days.

I fell in love with the island of Saint Martin the first time I visited, more than 10 years ago! Since then, I've spent a lot of time here getting to know this wonderful place and the friendly locals that make it so special. I adore the culture, the people, the community, and the beauty of this stunning island. SXM Strong is a website where I share my thoughts and love about Saint-Martin (French side) and Sint Maarten (Dutch side) with the world. I hope you enjoy it!
